Backup and Recovery Networker Speciality certification is provided by EMC2 Corporation for Implementation Engineers who implements Backup concepts and Recovery terminologies of Networker in Unix and Windows operating system. This Implementation Engineer track (EMCIE) is gained by passing both associate level and speciality level certifications. This certificate verifies a candidate's skill in implementing EMC's backup and recovery module of networking solutions.

Associate level certification

The Associate level certification is attained by passing any one of the two associate level exams such as Information Storage and Management version 2 (E10-001) or Backup Recovery Systems and Architecture (E20-005). The former exam (E10-001) deals with data storage with security and management in virtual and cloud environment. This exam is for 90 minutes with 65 questions approximately. The topics mainly covered in this exam are Storage systems, technologies of storage networking, backing up, archiving and replication for continuous protection, cloud computing, storage infrastructure management and security. Successful candidate gains the certification of EMC Information Storage Associate v2 (EMCISA).

I chose the latter associate level exam, EMCBA - Backup Recovery Systems and Architecture (E20-005) since I focused solely for Backup and Recovery. The exam is for 90 minutes with 60 questions. The course offered me free practice test to test my knowledge for the exam. This test helped me to highlight contents on which I need to prepare and train further. The course provides recommended training in Backup Recovery Systems and Architecture through e-learning and ILT / VILT. If you have in-depth knowledge in theory and hands on programs, recommended training is not necessary.

The topics covered in this exam are Backup theory and its architecture, data storage concepts like SAN, NAS and RAID, Backup client, Backup of Storage Node, Backup planning and recovery. The authorised user will be given rights to access EMC2 community page to take practice test and to get useful information regarding exams. Attending the course regularly and preparing all the contents helped me to pass EMCBA certification exam easily.

Specialist level Certification

Networker fundamentals and the overview of Networker modules are the recommended pre-requisite training for this certification. This exam is for Networker Specialist for Storage administrators and it focuses on the terminologies and concepts of Backup, configuration and management of backup solutions. The exam is for 90 minutes with 60 questions. The instructor-led training or online instructor-led training for this course totally covers 40 hours including hands-on practice. The course fee is nearly USD $5500.

Installation, Administration and Configuration of EMC Networker

It includes the installation of EMC networker and EMC NMC (Networker management Console), component and design of Networker, backup of client and server initiated processes, backup customization, information flow during backing up and recovery process, backup device configuration and management, Integration of Networker with technologies and applications for backup, NMC and Networker server configuration, Integration of Networker with Microsoft VSS, directed and browsable networker recoveries.

The recommended pre-requisite training and instructor-led training for the above course helped me to prepare well for the exam. I took practice test before attending the exam to check out my knowledge. These courses are more than enough to pass this certification exam. I passed this specialist level exam with lot of effort and dedication.
