Basic skills for LPIC-1

LPIC-1 is a Junior Level Linux Certification offered by LPC (Linux Professional Institute), which is the foremost IT certification program that has got professional accredition by NCCA (National Commission For Certifying Agencies).

After passing Level 1, a certified individual would possess the following basic skills:

  • To work efficiently in the Linux command line

Exam 101

2. Topic 'Linux Installation & Package Management' focuses on:

4. Topic 'Devices, Linux Filesystems, Filesystem Hierarchy Standard' focuses on:

  • To make hard & symbolic links to a file
  • To know about permissions & ownerships issues
  • To administer users' disk quotas

Exam 102

The main exam topics of Exam 102 include:

1. Topic 'Shells, Scripting and Data Management' focuses on:

  • Customizing techniques of shell environments to respond towards users' needs and being able to modify global user profiles
  • Customizing the existing scripts & writing basic level new BASH scripts
  • Executing database queries and manipulating data through basic SQL commands
  • Managing User Interfaces & Desktops

  • Managing accessibility technologies

2. Topic 'Administrative Tasks' focuses on:

  • Applying cron or anacron effectively to operate tasks at regular intervals and applying at to operate the tasks at a specific time
  • Localizing a system effectively in different types of languages besides English. Adding to these, understanding of the essence of LANG=C in scripting tasks

3. Topic 'Essential System Services' focuses on:

  • Maintaining the system properly along with the time through synchronizing the clock via NTP
  • Managing print queues & user print tasks through CUPS & LPD compatibility interface

4. Topic 'Networking Fundamentals' focuses on:

  • Having clear fundamental understanding on the TCP/IP network properly
  • Configuring DNS properly on a client host
  • Troubleshooting networking issues properly on client hosts
  • Configuring client hosts' settings through viewing, changing and verifying

5. Topic 'Security' focuses on:

  • Reviewing system configuration to ensure host security in accordance with local security policies
